August Mood Boards

July came and went with very few wins for me. It has been an especially tough month for me and my anxiety. Along with an ongoing family emergency, almost every day has been a struggle. Some days are worse than others, it comes in waves, but I’m doing my best to show up every day. Of course, not every day I’m successful, not every day I’m productive. I eternally feel like I don’t have the time, energy, or means to make anything happen. My creativity is at an all time low. It was a little harder for me to put together the mood boards this month, and I reached out to friends to inspire me. Let’s welcome in August with three new mood boards to guide our photoshoots.

The first board may not be cleverly named, but she’s rootin’ and she’s tootin’, she’s the Wild Wild West! This is a board I’ve wanted to do for a while now. With August traditionally being considered the end of the summer, I was thinking of a hot and dry climate (not in Miami of course!). The styling here is a little more editorial, but you gotta have the boots and the hat! I love lots of fringe, ruffles, and big sleeves for this concept. Harnesses and garters are a badass addition as well. If you’re lucky enough to live by sand dunes, that’s an easy location. The desert or the western National Parks would be great if you’re on a road trip or live in that region. And of course, a stable with horses! Rock the Modern Annie Oakley look. Color-wise, stick to denim and neutrals (white, black, tan).

Our next board was inspired by a suggestion from my friend Hayley! She said color and fashion trends for August which sent me on a not super successful google search. BUT I did find this: August Trends: Top 10 Design Trends 2021. Two caught my eye, the Ancient Roman Figures and Gold Accents, bringing to life, Midas Touch. I know that everything he touched turned to gold, but this board is definitely about accents -- makeup, headpieces, statement accessories (there’s some reeeeeally cool pieces on here). Embrace your inner god or goddess. Be regal, confident, and dramatic. It’s okay to get a lil crazy with it; after all, the gods weren’t exactly sane. (Can you tell I loved the eyes dripping gold 😅) I would say this board is more for waist up and beauty shots in the studio, but obviously not restricted to that style. I’m kind of obsessed with this concept and I have a LOT of gold flakes ready to make it happen!

Finally we have Sunshine and Smiles, a playful summer sunflower mood board, suggested by Hayley and Evan. Huge contrast from the previous two boards. I’ve always wanted to shoot in a sunflower field and just haven’t gotten the chance yet; partially because the season is different here in Miami, partially because it is not nearby. Flower fields are bright so try to emanate that happiness in your movements and facial expressions. Having a long, flowy dress will give you something to play with and add movement to the photo. Big hats are great accessories for field shots. Choose an outfit featuring warm tones, white, or denim. Is this considered a basic bitch concept? Yeah, probably, but sunflowers always bring a smile to my face, and I need more of that. And yes, I know these aren’t all sunflowers, but you get the gist.

Which board is your favorite? If you’re inspired by any of my mood boards, I would love to see the final product! Use my hashtag #KittensKoncepts to share your shots with me!

As a note, I’ll be low key on social media during the month of August. I will be taking a needed vacation and also seeing family. You can always connect with me on IG and if you want to support my art for the future, there are several ways to do so on my Linktree.
