February Mood Boards

I don't know about you, but creating mood boards for shoots is my favorite part of the creative process. As I’ve been trying to do a themed shoot every month, I thought I would share some inspo to help you guys plan your upcoming shoots as well! Every month, I hope to share 2-3 mood boards to inspire your next shoot, with my thoughts behind the board and how to approach it.
Valentine’s Day is coming up fast so let’s get a move on planning! You can find all the boards here..

Up first we have the traditional boudoir route. Think lace, satin, and pose petals. I recommend red, white, or black for lingerie. Best locations for this style are the bedroom or a bathtub. Your poses and expressions will be a lot softer and more sensual. Implied nudity is an obvious go to, but definitely not necessary -- whatever makes you comfortable! For more about boudoir modeling, check out my most popular blog post, Boudoir Babes POV.

Next we have more of an editorial board. This is a little more my style lately, especially for studio shoots.. This is the chance to do some bold, wild makeup on your face. Go really over the top with the styling. A full monochrome look here would be fire. Mix and match with textures. From these images, I especially love the ones with the stickers/bows on the face and hands. Dollar Tree or Michael’s will have a great variety of holiday items for shots like this. These are also my favorite stores to shop for supplies for floral crowns.

Finally, I call this board, My Sweet Love. This board is fun and sweet, without being overtly lovey dovey. Valentine's Day is really known for chocolates, but let's be honest, that's not particularly aesthetically pleasing. I really like pastels for this concept -- it reminds me of the little conversation hearts. Now you don’t have to go over the top with the candy. Sprinkles and confetti are great, albeit messy, options. If you’re using confetti or glitter, make sure you do it somewhere you can clean it up, like the studio or home. These products are usually made out of non-biodegradable plastics, contributing to the growing problem and detrimental impact of microplastics in the environment. On this board, there's a few hacks for non sticky candy props, like fake bubble gum bubbles and the cotton candy balloons! I would suggest a "selfie museum" in non-COVID times, but the studio or a colorful wall will do just fine!

Which board is your favorite? Which one will you be trying for your Valentine’s shoot?
