JOAH Lash UPrising VoxBox Review

I’ve talked about summer proof makeup in an earlier blog and the most recent issue of PhotosUnboxed magazine, Under the Sun. Although my focus was on a sweatproof base, your lashes should be a concern as well -- no one wants to be a raccoon! Waterproof mascaras can be really good for humid climates or swimming, as they are less likely to run and have a stronger hold to maintain curl; however the formula can result in more fragile lashes. That, and my bad habit of not removing mascara every night, has led me to look for alternative options for long lasting lashes! And lucky me, Influenster sent me some JOAH products complimentary for testing purposes! If you missed my blog on Influenster and VoxBoxes, you can check that out here!

The first item in the box was the Lash UPrising Boosting Primer ($10). This new product gives lashes a “super boost” to “lengthen, curl, and conquer extreme volume”! The ingredients in here that I really love are biotin, vitamin E, and olive oil to strengthen, condition, and nourish your lashes over time. Lash primer applies exactly as you would mascara, but it's a white formula that preps your lashes. It stays white until you apply the mascara. Just one coat of the primer and I noticed a dramatic increase in length and curl! Not only that, but it extends the wear of the mascara, without a drying, waterproof formula. On one eye, I’ve applied the primer (the left) and the other lashes I left bare to show the difference (right). Try to make sure you avoid clumping with application because it’ll be difficult to fix that with the mascara application.

The other half of the dream team is the Lash UPrising Mascara ($10). It is a “high impact mascara with volume-maximizing brush [that] precisely coats and conditions each lash for fierce volume, length and lift. Balloon Air Powder Complex delivers weightless volume for all-day comfort.” I’m not really sure what “Balloon Air Powder Complex” is and it is not noted in the ingredients. The mascara is labeled as cruelty free, which I love; the primer was not specifically labeled as cruelty free but their about page does say they are 100% cruelty free. Another listed benefit of the mascara was ultra-light, buildable volume. It is a very light-weight formula, however, if you’re using the primer, it will be harder to build the mascara further. As a note, they do also sell this mascara in a waterproof formula. I applied the mascara to both eyes, but only one has the primer. Can you tell the difference? I did a test one morning and asked Sam if he saw a difference, with no context, and he said the one with the primer looked more “lash-like” whatever that means 😹 I do like wearing this mascara without the primer as well. Primer is for my longer, sweatier days. Without primer, the mascara gives the lashes more of a wispy effect -- great length and curl, but a little less volume.

All in all I would rate these products 5/5!

For eye makeup removal, I’m not really big on makeup wipes. My eyes are kind of sensitive and a lot of wipes make my eyes sting. An oil-based cleanser is really good for removing eye makeup, but my favorite way to remove makeup is The MakeUp Eraser (I’ve linked a cute set of 7 minis but they sell larger singles as well)! The MakeUp Eraser is a reusable and machine washable alternative to makeup wipes. It’s double sided, with one side for makeup removal and one side for exfoliation. All you have to do is wet it with warm water and you’re ready to get unready!

What’s your favorite mascara?
