Treat Yo Self: Beauty Fridge

Last week I decided to start a new series called Treat Yo Self, a collection of blogs reviewing skincare services and products! I had a blog planned regarding my recent microneedling appointment, but as they usually say you don’t see a difference until 3 treatments, I decided to hold off on posting about the experience and my thoughts. Despite the month being busy and chaotic (as usual), I still wanted to get a blog out this month, other than the upcoming monthly mood board post. So with that being said, let’s talk about beauty fridges!

What is a beauty fridge?

A beauty fridge is a mini fridge meant for storing skincare and other beauty products. Although storing your products in a cold environment isn’t exactly necessary, it does reduce the risk of bacteria/mold/yeast growing in it and prolongs the shelf life. Of course you could store your products in your kitchen fridge, but then you’re exposing your food to your skincare and vice versa. I had been eying one for a while, but ultimately Sam surprised me with one for my birthday!

This 6qt beauty fridge features a mirrored front with an LED light around the front. The light can be turned on with a touch button on the front. There is a shelf inside and a small shelf on the inside of the door, which is great for holding small sized products. Although I wanted to keep it in the bathroom, the power plug caused the fridge to sit too far away from the wall, taking up too much space on the counter, and was aesthetically displeasing for me. We ended up putting it on the dresser in our bedroom until I purchase an actual vanity. The motor does make some noise, but for me, it’s more like white noise so it doesn’t bother me too much.

Whether or not you want to invest in a beauty fridge, using chilled products has some benefits! Primarily, the cooling effect helps with inflammation. It will help reduce redness and puffiness. Anything advertising to calm, soothe, or hydrate will be a great product to keep cold, that includes serums, eye creams, gels, face masks, and aloe. As a note, products may have a thicker consistency after being chilled.

What do I have in my beauty fridge?

  • Yeouth Retinol Eye Cream - a gel-like moisturizer that firms and hydrates the skin for a smoother appearance. I use this only at night. This is the first thing I apply on my clean, damp face.

  • Yeouth Niacinamide Serum - a serum that improves the appearance of pores and brightens for a more even skin tone. I use this serum both in the morning and at night. I love to mix a pump of the niacinamide serum with a few drops of Night Magic for really hydrated skin.

  • Prima Co Night Magic - brightens and hydrates the skin This is one of my holy grails! It’s a little pricey ($88!!!!) but lasts around 6 months and is totally worth it.

  • Yeouth Retinol Serum - a serum that improves dark spots, fine lines, skin tone and texture. I use this product a little less now, mostly because I’m running low on it.

  • Crystal facial roller - I have this rose quartz one from Sephora, but many companies sell these now. The rose quartz already feels cool on the skin, but putting it in the fridge brings it to a whole other level! I use the roller after applying my niacinamide/Night Magic combo to help press the product into my skin. I focus the “treatment” on my cheekbones, jawbones, and browbones, to help relieve stress and tension.

  • Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask - A leave-on lip mask that soothes and moisturizes for smoother, more supple lips overnight. I recently received this as a sample from my Sephora birthday gift. Great product to use the day before a shoot, especially if you, or an MUA, will be applying color to your lips.

Have you thought about purchasing a beauty fridge or do you have one already? What products do you enjoy chilled?

Disclaimer: I am not an affiliate for any of the aforementioned companies but I did receive the Yeouth products complimentary for testing at an earlier time.
